Cora J. Belden Library - FAQ

What do I need to get a library card?
If you are a Rocky Hill resident of any age, you are eligible for a library card! Start your library application process online by getting a digital library card! After filling out the online form, you will receive a temporary library card number that will give full access to the majority of e-Resources from your phone, tablet, or laptop, including OverDrive / Libby books and more. This e-Card will be good for 90 days. To receive a permanent, physical library card and the ability to check out items in person, please bring proof of residency, such as a photo I.D., utility bill, or other official mail, to the library. Email cora@rockyhillct.gov with any questions. Children under the age of 13 must have their parents sign the library card application.

What should I do if I lose my card?
If you lose your library card please notify the library as soon as possible and we will provide a replacement card. Frequent loss of library card may result in a $1.00 fee.

How many items am I permitted to check out?
You can borrow an unlimited number of materials, but only two Rapid Reads may be borrowed at one time.

How long may I keep library materials?
Most library materials are loaned for 21 days. Exceptions are Rapid Reads that are loaned for 7 days. All materials, except Rapid Reads and hold items may be renewed twice. The library currently has a system in place that will automatically renew your library items 2 days before the due date, as long as there are no other Rocky Hill patrons waiting for the item on hold.

How do I renew a book?
You can renew items in one of three ways:
1. Stop by the library with the item.
2. Call the library with your library card number and barcode number of the item.
3. Login to your online account, find your list of checked out items, check off the items you want to renew, and click 'Renew Selected'. When you renew an item the new due date is calculated from the renewal date.

How Do I Reserve an Item?
1. Call the Information Desk at 860-258-7623.
2. Go to our online catalog, find the item you would like, and select 'Request it'.

The library will notify you by phone or e-mail when the item(s) is available for pick up.

What are the charges for a lost item?
Replacement cost varies by item and is charged in accordance with the original purchase price.
